Amitabh Bachchan was born on 11th October 1942 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a poet and mother Teji a homemaker with a keen interest in theatre.

In 1971 Saleem-Javed the screen writer duo wrote a story they thought would fit the persona of Amitabh Bachchan. They convinced director Prakash Mehra to cast him in the film ‘Zanjeer’ (1973), a crime film which catapulted his career to a new level.
