Jessica Lange was born on April 20, 1949, in Cloquet, Minnesota to her parents Albert John Lange and Dorothy Florence. Her father was a teacher and mother was a housewife. Her paternal ancestors were from Germany while her maternal ancestors were from Finland. Lange completed her graduation from the Cloquet High School.
In 1967, Lange went to the University of Minnesota to study art and photography where she dated Paco Grande who was a Spanish photographer. She was married to Grande from 1970 to 1980. After her divorce, she got into a relationship with a well-known ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov. Lange had her first child with him who was born in 1981.
After their separation in 1982, she partnered with Sam Shepard with whom she had two children.
