Davenie Johanna Heatherton was born in Rockville Centre, New York, on September 14, 1944, to her parents Ray Heatherton and Davenie.
Her father was a television pioneer and her mother was a dancer. She also has a brother who is a professional disc jockey.
She went to Saint Agnes Academy for high school. She started learning ballet at the age of six and including four years of study under the guidance of George Balanchine.
In 1969, she married to Lance Rentzel who played football for the Dallas Cowboys. The couple divorced in 1972.
In 1985, she was arrested for not paying the bill from a hotel in Long Island. In the same year, she was again arrested because she slapped a clerk in the Manhattan’s U.S. Passport Agency office. She was acquitted of both charges.
