Marilu Henner was born on 6 April, 1952 in Chicago city of Illinois, United States. She is the third daughter among the six children of Loretta Callis (a dance teacher by profession) and Joseph Henner. Her grandparents were from Poland while her maternal grandparents were from Greece. She grew up in the Logan Square neighbourhood of Chicago and started taking dance classes from the age of 2. At the age of 14, she started teaching dance at her mother’s studio. She went to the University of Chicago for her higher education.
