Karl was born on 24th July 1963 in Summerfield, Louisiana and was the youngest of his nine siblings. All the children used to live on a farm in childhood with Shirley, their mother. His father left them and later committed suicide when Karl was only 3 years old. In his childhood Karl used to hunt, chop woods to help her mom in living. His first school was Summerfield High School. With his amazing basketball skills at that young age, Karl led the school team to three consecutive Louisiana Class C titles.
Karl joined Louisiana Tech University at first but later changed to Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Basketball team when his was just in the second year for his low grades. He stunned people with his skills wherever he went.
After completing a great career in college, Karl joined NBA and was picked up by Utah Jazz in 1985. He was brilliant there.
