Valeri Vladimirovich ‘Val’ Bure was born on June 13, 1974, in Moscow, Soviet Union. His father belongs to the Furna, Switzerland and was the Olympic medallist in swimming for the Soviet Union three times since 1968. At the age of 9, Bure was separated from his father. He lived with his mother and shifted to Los Angeles. His training was completed under the vision of Pavel and Valeri for the hockey and physical training.

Bure has started his career while playing his first session in the 90s. In the session, he played HC CSKA in the Soviet Championship League. At the age of 17, he was selected for playing junior hockey and joined Western Hockey League after reaching in North America. He was the only Russian player who played the league in the history of the league. Before joining the league, he already played in the Canadian Hockey League and becomes the member of the team.
In 1994, he started playing professional leagues and started the first session in American Hockey League which was affiliated to Fredericton Canadiens. He achieves 48 points in the session along with 23 goals in a total of 45 games. Later, he was called back by Montreal late and played his debut in the NHL in the month of February 1995.
In 1997, he played almost 50 matches for Canadiens and later exchanged with Jonas Hoglund in a deal. His first career hat trick was made while playing in the opposition of Edmonton Oilers.
