Gene Haas Early Life
Gene Haas was born on 12th of November, 1952 in Youngstown, Ohio. When Gene was young his father along with family moved to Los Angeles. His father was a designer of electrical cabinets in Hughes Aircraft industry and his mother worked as a school teacher. He has four siblings and he was the second oldest. Hails from a hardworking family Haas started working from his early age alongside his studies. He distributed newspaper and later he also worked as a cleaner in a nearby machine shop. There he started observing the working mechanism of the different machines and within few months he totally inculcated the different machining techniques. This knowledge then became the base for him in starting the Haas Automation in 1983.
Haas did his schooling from the Mission Hills, California, in 1970. After that he did is Degree in accounting and finance and graduated 1975.

Haas after his graduation started looking for the job in his relevant field but he was unable to find any suitable job. After trying few years for the job he decided to open a small machined shop called “Proturn Engineering” in Sun Valley, California. The Proturn Engineering had only two employees then named Tony Cortez and Abel Bugarin. Their main asset was to manufacture parts for the electronics and aerospace industries. During that he developed a 5C collet indexer to optimize the in-house productivity which really reduced the number of men power and time in a product development.
Haas 5C collet indexer proved to be a masterstroke and was very warmly welcomed by the machining industries. This led to the foundation of Haas Automation, Inc. in 1983. They started with four employees in a 465 square meter area of land. With his hard work soon Haas Automation started to grow very rapidly. In the year 1992, increase in demand made Hass decided to move his industry to a bigger facility in Chatsworth, California in 1992. Then again in 1997, they shifted to an even bigger facility in Oxnard, California for the same reason. Soon Hass Automation became a big name in manufacturing industry by opening 170 outlets in over 80 countries.
Besides his profession, he loved auto racing. In the year of 2002, he founded “Haas CNC Racing”, a NASCAR racing team with headquarter in Concord, North Carolina. His team started to grow and even got more strength when two-time Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart joined them as a partner. Their collaboration won many cups in the coming years. Later on Danica Patrick, a top racer at that time also became the part of the racing team.
