Richard DeVos was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the year 1926. He was named Richard Marvin DeVos at birth by his parents, Simon Cornellius DeVos who owned a small electrical business and Ethel Ruth Dekker. Richard went on to study from Calvin College. His career began with the United States Army Air Corps. in which he served during the Second World War.
