Karan Johar was born on 25 May 1972, in Mumbai, India to Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. He went to the Greenlawns High School and later attended H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai.
When Johar was 15 years of old, he acted in a television serial Indradhanush which aired on Doordarshan. He was highly influenced by the Indian Cinema and considered popular Bollywood personalities including Sooraj R. Barjatya, Raj Kapoor, and Yash Chopra as his inspirations.
