Born on March 31st, 1935, Herb Alpert is of Jewish descent. He was born in Boyle Heights, Eastside Los Angeles, California and grew up in the same locality. He was born to Tiller and Louis Alpert, who was a tailor with a talent to play the mandolin. Both were emigrants from Radomyshl and Romania.
Herb’s family members were practitioners of music, and he was taught to play the violin from a very early age by his mother. He learnt trumpet playing since the age of 10. His brother, David was also an enthusiast and played drums. He did his schooling from Fairfax High School and graduated in 1952. He attended the University of Southern California. After that, he enrolled in the United States Army, and also used to showcase his musical talents in military ceremonies.

He was first married to Sharon Mar Lubin and had two children with her, son, Dore, and daughter, Eden. They were married from 1956 till 1971. He married Lani Hall in the year 1973 and had one daughter with her. Herb Albert is most famous for his recording label A&M Records which he co-founded with Jerry Moss. He started his professional career in the 1950s having teamed up with Rob Weerts first and then debuting as a recording artist under the name Dore Alpert. The A&M Records was first named Carnival Records, a name that was changed a short while after they began operations. His first breakthrough music was “The Lonely Bull” which was accompanied by a trumpet style tune. Following the success of the song, he released an album titled “The Lonely Bull” by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.
Herb continued his signature sound with Tijuana brass in the following years and became a famous jazz musician over the years. The signature sound was apparently invented after Herb Alpert was an audience to a bullfight in Mexico’s Tijuana region.
