Al Franken was born to parents, Joseph and Phoebe Franken in New York City, USA. Both of his parents were well settled and lived a satisfactory life; his mother worked as a real estate agent and his father was a printing salesman. While his mother’s grandfather belonged to Grodno (Russian Empire) before moving to the States, his father’s grandfather too wasn’t from NYC, he emigrated from Germany.
Al Franken attended The Blake School after moving to new places two times. He graduated from the same school in 1969. It is known that Al Franken, along with his friend Tom Davis, used to perform comic acts while at school. He was also the member of the wrestling team in his school. After graduation, he attended the Harvard College. He graduated in Political Science from there with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts.
Al Franken also has an elder brother- Owen Franken, who is a photojournalist.
In the beginning, Al Franken was offered the position of a writer and worked as an occasional performer. He was given this role in partnership with his school friend, Tom Davis with whom he developed an unofficial partnership. Both of them worked on quite a few projects together, including minor roles in a film.
Individually, Al Franken worked on a few other shows as an anchor and performed in some of them. After shows, Al Franken moved on to writing scripts for films, although, the first one took a toll on him. The film which he wrote did not work well or rather it was drastic. Al Franken also acted in his own film, but its failure depressed him. Although, the film failed to garner audiences, it was appreciated by The Washington Post.
After shows and films, Al Franken went on to write six very well acclaimed books, four of which made it to The New York Times Best Seller list. He has also worked for the Air America Radio for about 3 years. After that, he signed for the U.S. State Senate.
Before the elections started Al Franken remained super busy with the work and campaigning for the elections, like any other probable candidate. After much criticism and backlashes, he managed to win the elections in 2009. Al Franken got reelected in 2014. He resigned from his position in 2017.
