The American musician and songwriter, Don Mclean was born as Donald McLean III. His father and grandfather also had the same name. He has the ancestry roots in Scotland. However, before his birth, his family was already settled in America. He was born on October 2, 1945, in New Rochelle, New York. There is not much information about his family background.
As a child, Don suffered from Asthma which critically affected his studies in school. He had interest in music since his childhood and he didn’t let it get affected. In fact, his father also wanted him to be a musician.
When he was 15 years old, his father died but Don kept on trying to fulfil his father’s dream. First, he attended Lona Preparatory School and then enrolled at Villanova University. By the time, he had started writing the songs which he put together in his first album ‘Tapestry’ and released in 1969. Though the album was not very successful, it got the positive reviews.
Don received the biggest breakthrough of his career in 1971 when he released his second album ‘American Pie’. This album bagged him an international fame and he went on achieving a huge success.
