Born on January 3rd, 1986, to Lloyd Polite, Sr. and Robin Lewis Polite Lloyd spent his formative years in the district if Central City in New Orleans. He moved to Georgia and then to New York City where he came across Irv Gotti.
His meeting with Irv Gotti resulted in his signing a record deal with Inc. Records. He released his first album, Southside in 2004. It enjoyed a position of Number 11 on the Billboard 200 charts and Number 3 on the R and B charts. It earned him the 24t spot on the Billboard Hot 100. He released a single titled, “Hey Young Girl”, which reached the 61st spot on R&B and Hip-Hop Charts on Billboard.
He also collaborated with Ashanti and Scarface to release his third single, “Southside Remix”. He also made appearances in Tango Redd’s “Let’s Cheat” as well as 8Ball & MJG’s “Forever”.
He released his second album, Street Love in 2007. It appeared at the second position in the Billboard 200. The album sold 145,000 copies, marking the highest sales for him in the first week of his album. It eventually ended up selling over 500, 000 copies in the U.S.A. alone. One of the singles of the album, “You”, in which he collaborated with Lil Wayne became his first song to earn a spot in the Billboard Hot 100. “Get It Shawty” peaked at Number 16 in the Billboard Hot 100.
His next album, Lessons in Love was released in 2008. It hit the seventh spot in the Billboard 200. He collaborated with Ludacris to create the single, “How We Do It (Around My Way)”, it hit the 77th spot on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. “Girls Around the World”, in which he collaborated with Lil Wayne, enjoyed greater success and hit the 64th spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2009, he decided to leave Inc. Records for personal reasons. It was eventually announced that he had signed a record deal with Interscope Records. In 2010, Lloyd released a slew of singles, including, “Lay It Down”, “Cupid”, “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)” and “Be the One”.
In 2012, he released a mixed tape, The Playboy Diaries Vol. 1.
