Maurice White was an American singer, record producer, songwriter, musician, and bandleader. He founded the band Earth, Wind and Fire. He is also the brother of Verdine White. He was co-lead singer and songwriter of the band. He won seven Grammys in his lifetime.
Maurice White was born on 19th December in 1941. He was born in Tennessee, but he grew up in South Memphis. He attended Booker T Washington High School. He frequently visited his mother and his step-father, who was a doctor and he also played the saxophone occasionally. He went to Chicago Conservatory of Music. He became a member of Ramsey Lewis Trio and featured on albums like The Movie Album, Dancing in the Street, Goin’ Latin, Up pops Ramsey Lewis.
Maurice was the star of the band Earth, water, and Fire. He formed the band and produced most of its albums. The band won numerous prestigious awards. As a producer, Maurice worked with many artists like Deniece Williams, the girl band “The Emotions”, jazz group “Urban Knights” and another jazz band “Nojazz”. He has also co-written a song with Barry Manilow.
His solo album titled Maurice white released in 1985. The “Stand by me” cover became very famous. He also wrote songs for movies and television shows. He has co-written his autobiography with Herb Powell.

He won four American Music Awards, ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Award, 3 NAACP Image Awards, ASCAP Pop Music Award.
He got BET Lifetime Achievement Award. His name was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Award; he was also inducted into Memphis Music Hall of Fame. In 2005 Los Angeles Valley College awarded him with cultural Achievement Award of excellence. He received honorary doctorates from Berklee College of Music and Columbia College of Chicago. As a songwriter, he also won ASCAP Award.
