Don Francisco early life
Don Francisco was born in Talca, Chile on December 28, 1940, to Anna and Erick Krentzberger, German Jewish refugees who fled to escape from World War-II and the threat by Nazi regime under Adolf Hitler. His mother was a classical singer and father, a tailor. He dabbled in singing as well as tailoring, but his destiny was elsewhere.
His father sent him to the US in 1995 to study fashion design, but Don Francisco was more interested in TV and thought that it was his future. He learnt technical aspects of TV production at Catholic University in Santiago and later debuted in the TV show ‘Sabado Gigante’ (Giant Saturday) in August 1962 in a long eight-hour format which was later reduced to three hours, but the style of the programme was the same.

Don Francisco debuted with the TV show Sabado Gigante in 1962 in which he adopted many ideas of American TV. The show was a big hit amongst the Chilean public and went on for 53 years creating a world record. In 1986 the show reduced its running time to three hours and Univision, Miami, Florida was its producer. It was a variety show that included contests, comedy, interviews and travelling camera section. Don Francisco travelled to 185 countries worldwide for his show and also interviewed many celebrities including Bill Gates, three presidents of US and Robert Duran.
He appeared in the film ‘The 33’ which is about Copiapo mining accident. His new show on TV ‘Don Francisco Te invita’ debuted on TV on 9th October 2015.
