Frank Fritz is an American reality television personality. Many of us recognize him from the hit reality series ‘American Pickers’ which has aired about 18 seasons since its debut in 2010 on History Channel. Much like many other History Channel shows ‘American Pickers’ too engages the audience with a whacky theme which at the same time is extremely educative and fascinating.
Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe, the two hosts and ‘pickers’ of the show travel around the United States following a ‘picking layout’ created by Danielle Colby, the 3rd picker of the show, gathering things that people deem as junk and stack away in their backyards, garages, sheds and barns! Let’s find out more about how much is Frank Fritz’s net worth in 2018.
Frank Fritz Early Life
Frank Fritz hails from Davenport, Iowa, United States where he was born to a construction company worker mother Susan Zirbes. Not much is known about his father as his parents parted ways when Frank was a child and his mother married a tire salesman named Dick Zirbes.
Sudlow Intermediate School, which Frank Fritz attended as a child, played an important role in shaping his future and interests. It was in this school where Frank 1st developed a penchant for collecting little everyday things that nobody seemed to care about and met his fellow collector and future partner Mike Wolfe. The duo got together like a ‘cauldron on fire’, thanks to their shared interests and went on to attend Bettendorf High School after leaving Sudlow Intermediate School.
The chubby, unassuming albeit charming Frank Fritz is a very private man when it comes to his personal life. Therefore, we only know the things that he himself reveals on his show. Apart from being an avid picker, he has a passion for bikes and is the proud owner of collections of both real and antique toy bikes. He lives a quiet and simple life in his hometown of Davenport devoid of any celebrity like airs.
Frank Fritz Career, Awards & Achievement
Before pursuing picking as a career, Frank Fritz served in the Fire Department as a Fire Inspector for 25 long years. He did not lose his passion for picking however, collecting small articles in his spare time. After realising his true calling in life, he quit his job and established ‘Frank Fritz Finds’, an antique sale store in Savana, Illinois in 2002 after which he began collecting antiques and even junk which he deemed fit for resale or for personal collections. He often used to cross paths with fellow collector Mike Wolfe during several of his collecting expeditions. Eventually, Mike shared the idea of a TV show that had formed in his mind some years ago and convinced Frank to give it a shot. With the help of Mike’s producer friend Justin Anderson they recorded a sample video of their exploits and pitched their idea to various television networks. Finally in 2010, History Channel picked their idea and came up with ‘American Pickers’, a show that not only made Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe overnight celebrities but also added to the long list of successful shows on History Channel.
With the show Frank Fritz is doing much the same thing that he did for his antique store, the only difference being the camera that accompanies him on his expeditions. He has described himself as a “modern day recycler and antique collectible expert” who looks for gold in a pile of junk! In 2017, ‘American Pickers’ is the most watched show on History channel efficaciously engaging audiences of all ages.
He has made appearances in many other TV shows, like ‘Late Show with David Letterman’, ‘Pawn Stars’, ‘American Restoration’ and ‘Rachel Ray’ among others.
