Judy Sheindlin was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 21, 1942, to a Jewish family. She was the second child among her four siblings.
Sheindlin went to the James Madison High School in Brooklyn. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in government from the American University in Washington, D.C. In 1965, Judy Sheindlin earned her Juris Doctor degree from the New York Law School.
